FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions…

Q: What are PortaPocket® carrying cases made from? A: All PortaPocket® components are made from poly coated neoprene which makes them very lightweight and comfy to wear.

Q: Won’t it fall off? A: If you are participating in normal day to day activities, you shouldn’t have a problem. Our products have been successfully worn by vacationers on roller coaster rides, runners in marathons, people biking, working out, and many other active pursuits. Our founder has worn PortaPocket® products every day for over 4 years without fail (and she’s not just sitting around on the couch all day…!)

Q: Why do the pockets have different kinds of mountings and which one should I use? A: We made different types to suit a broad range of needs. Velcro®-style pockets are meant for small and lightweight items you wish to conceal under your clothing to be discreet. In order to be able to take the pocket off to get it in your two hands to use it effectively, it has to be something you can remove easily, yet stay secure when stowed. Hence the Velcro®-mounted pockets. We recommend keeping these closer to the hem of your outfit when wearing a dress or skirt so as not to expose any undergarments or body parts while getting at your money, ID or whatever (unless of course that’s your desire…)!
The belt-loop mounted pockets are best for when you wear PortaPocket® on the outside of your clothing, and/or for times when a heavier item is transported that need not be removed with any frequency, even if hidden (like an insulin pump for example).

Q: I sweat a lot. Will PortaPocket products be hot to wear or have soak-though? A: The only part actually against your skin is the 1” wide band (with the slightly wider mounting pad only in a very concentrated area). So even if you sweat profusely there is such a small area that will even be affected. Our fabric is sweat and water resistant so you can use them confidently even if you are on the beach etc. Keep in mind the pocket flap will not prevent the contents of your pockets from getting wet if you are IMMERSED in water as while swimming. We are working on an insert to protect your items that you can use in those cases, but for now, the pockets do an excellent job of keeping your items handy yet dry while you’re on dry land.
As for soak issues…the fabric will not allow sweat to permeate through, so our products are ideal for travel. We’ve been told stories where (literally!) hot under the collar vacationers ended up spending unwanted days in foreign embassies trying to resolve issues when sweat bled through their nylon neck safes and ruined their passport photos. Whoops! Don’t let this happen to you…PortaPocket to the rescue!

Q: Does it feel weird to wear this on your leg?

A: PortaPocket is uber comfy but like anything else that’s new to you, it may seem different at first… but you get used to it in probably 5 minutes or less. In fact, oftentimes you almost forget it’s even there! It really hits that perfect balance of sensing that something is there so you can be confident that it really IS, yet not being an issue so you can forget about it and enjoy the activities at hand.

Q: What kinds of things fit in which size pockets? A: The rule of thumb is:
Small = credit card/ID size (& single keys, lipbalm/lipstick, cash, cards, etc)
Medium = cell phone size (& tampons, makeup, cash, cameras, ipods, insulin pumps, inhalers, etc)
Large = US passport size (& keyrings, and any of the above items, as desired, too)
Tall = EpiPen or sunglasses size (etc)

If your phone is on the lighter side, a Velcro®-style pocket can be fine. But if your cell has a little mass to it, you might be more comfortable using a pocket with belt-loop style mountings instead. Of course this kind of pocket can also be worn on your regular belt, too!

Q: Will you have any other colors/patterns? A: We’re always working to that goal! We like to think walking before we run helps avoid face plants .

Q: What’s the weirdest thing you have heard of people carrying in your product? (well….actually, this isn’t exactly a frequent question we get but we thought it’d be fun to include it here, anyway)… A: hmm…at this point we’d have to say probably teeth…and a few other things that may not be able to be spoken about in polite company. Then again, you can always come up with a few creative ideas of your own and surpass these! Just tell us when you do so we can give you full credit. We always love surprises.
